Well, we're not having the game tonight. Several folks cannot make it and then the DM got really tired from packing extraneous game stuff, so we called it off.
I built some boxes (thanks Quix and Perky!), packed some books, did some filing, wrote and deliver the checks for the inspectors, and now I'm thinking about a nap. I made my first book box too heavy, I think, but I can fix that.
Man, I have always said that I hated moving but I had forgotten just how much! You look around and you think "Oh, it won't take long to put that stuff in a box." But you're wrong. Even one bookcase takes longer than estimated. Good thing we are starting now. :)
Pie is anxious already. He was running around the house like crazy today, and what happens to a running cat? He gets chased. Well, that's what happens in this house, anyway. He seemed to enjoy it when he realized we were playing with him. He got all purry and paw-squeezy when we were done. But the boxes are definitely causing him some anxiety. He's a lot needier now.
Pres Man and I have been discussing getting rid of some stuff that we have that we don't like and do NOT want to move, so I'll be freecycling it or advertising it in the company newsletter. Someone suggested Craigslist, and I know that's probably a good idea, but I Hate Them So Much (Craigslist, not the person who suggested it) because they enable forced prostitution. Or they did. Have they taken steps to eliminate sex trafficking?
Anyway, we're going to get rid of our huge nasty entertainment center, a dining table with three chairs (not in good shape, honestly), and our hide-a-bed couch. If you're thinking "Hey, that leaves you without much to sit on!" you are correct, but we're hoping to purchase new furniture soonish after moving in. Knowing us, that means "sometime around Christmas," but we can make do until then with the futon and stuff if we have to.
Despite my loathing of packing and moving, I am still very excited. We've been talking about what will go where, and enjoying in advance the freedom we will have to do whatever we want with color and putting hangers on the walls and all of that. That freedom will hopefully offset the other fun stuff, like being responsible for maintaining the sidewalk, being totally on the hook for appliances that break down, and yard maintenance. I think even the yard will be more fun since we can plant nearly whatever we wish there.
I am going to go crazy with wind chimes, I think. I had a bunch at my old place because it had a nice overhang with handy hooks already in it. Our current place is not that great for wind chimes. The new place will be all tinkly. That sounds funny, but I'm leaving it.
