We had our closing today and I guess now we get to live in a house that we own a very small part of. Awesome!
During our closing a newbie agent sat in so she could see how it's done. That was kind of neat. We had a weird moment when we realized that the legal location didn't match on two of the documents, but then they called the title company and everything was fine. The easement had been left off the one page, but was listed on a later page. So it was good.
Then during our walk through last night, we realized that the washer and dryer were gone, and they were supposed to remain. So our agent is tracking those down. If they are halfway across Kansas already and it would be hard for them to bring them back, we will take monetary restitution. We would have also accepted the Xbox that was in the house during our walk through last night, but this morning after we were officially the owners it was gone.
We got a perfectly wonderful pen from the bank as a gift. We did not use it to sign anything because she gave it to us after we were done, but it's really swell and it's BLUE which I love.
We tried to be organized and have everything we needed (including grubby clothes to change into) in the car so that we could go straight to the house after the bank, but we did not remember everything so we ended up going back to our current place before our first trip to the house as Owners.
But then we were off! Our key worked (yay) and we dove right into cleaning the hell out of the place.
I mopped the kitchen like crazy and I still don't feel like it's clean, but it's much better. I got all of the wood floors (except the entryway) mopped once with the cleaner stuff, and I got the living room mopped with the shiny finishing stuff. I also got the walls looking a lot better with a magic eraser.
I also ran the automatic shower cleaner. That's right, we are going to give cheating a try. It's one of those things you hang up and push the button after your shower so that it sprays it down. We will see how it does. Honestly the walls of the shower do not look that bad but the tub floor needs scrubbing and I might get to that tomorrow. The downstairs bathroom looks much better and you can smell the cleaner that they used. I know it's silly but that makes it seem more clean.
Pres Man swept and dust mopped the floors before I mopped, and then he tore all the old shelf paper out of the kitchen cabinets and washed them inside and out. He also cleaned out the linen closet. I may be biased, but I think he did a fantastic job.
D. stopped by to see the place after she got off work. She is really great with color, so she and I are going to look at paint samples next week over lunch. I don't know if we'll even do any painting anytime soon, but it will be fun to plan.
Tomorrow I will finish the upstairs floors and do the downstairs floors. We will begin to set up the game room so that we can be ready for Saturday's game. I am so excited about actually moving some of our stuff into the house!
We will take pictures tomorrow so I can post some here.

Date: 2010-05-21 03:08 am (UTC)Suggestion: make one of the first things you do a change in locks. You don't know who might have a spare key that someone forgot about. Home Depot & Lowe's both carry Kwik Set locks that can be re-keyed in about 30 seconds, and the Kwik Set protects against a particular kind of lock-picking that some of the others don't.

Date: 2010-05-21 05:27 pm (UTC)And yay for it finally being yours!
Wish I was closer so I could come and see it; I adore giving color advice on painting. If you are going to paint, doing it before moving things into the room makes it so much easier.

Date: 2010-05-23 06:55 pm (UTC)I really wish we could paint before moving things in, but I don't think we are capable of moving all of our things into the house without using every single day we will have, which leaves no painting time. Everything is taking longer than I expected, mostly because I wear out too quickly. After a month of this crap, I will be in SUCH good shape. :P
